Goning to attempt to branch out a bit and explore after shaves. I would like to start with a brand which is available in most neighborhood drugstores such as CVS or Rite Aid, my area has both. What do you recommend?

My company has an employee store where the company is not allowed to make dollars off our employees. So employees get items at the company's cost so as a consequence I tend to get some incredible bargins on stuff. Got fourty percent off a bottle of Mennan, going to start with that and see how things go. Problem with the store is that selection is not always the best. Need to satsify ourselves with what ever the company can lay there hands on at a reasonable price.

I can see what you all like so much about after shaves. It braces a lot more than my Witch Hazel did and has a definite scent to it unlike my Witch Hazel did. Going to start with the Colgate brand and try some of the others to see what I like.

If you happen to be near a Sally's Beauty Supply check that out for the best deal on quality.

Most all of them carray Pinaud Clubman and Master Bay Rum. Both far superior to that Velva crap everyone keeps carrying on about. :laugh042

DC has Sally's but not on my side of the city. Would have to make a special trip to the other side of the city.

I decided to try Pinaud Clubman this morning. I got it from my local drug store. Let me tell you, the stuff is STRONG. I can still smell it 7 hours later! My girlfriend didn't approve at all :(

The burn felt pretty good up until I put a little extra on the left side of my neck where i was a little rough.

This was my first experience with an alcohol based after shave. Normally I stick with Thayer's WH.

It's considered an aftershave cologne. A little goes a long way and it lasts all day long. I think the last time I used the musk I was still smelling it 11 hours later.

You can always "dumb" the heavier scented stuff down a little bit, either with water or Witch Hazel

Have a bottle of Afta in the medicine cabinet, will try it once the Colgate-Pomolive Mennan Skin Bracer is finished.

No, she probably won't like any of those cheap drugstore scents. They smell like what they are. Me, I can't stand 'em either.

Strongly suggest you stick for now w/ your Thayer's (good stuff, and it's been working, right?) and then just browse the Scents forum here to read about the incredibly fine aftershaves and colognes from the likes of T&H, Trumper, Taylor, Floris, or Penhaligon. If you get a cologne, you can use it sparingly and it will still be fairly economical to smell really great.

Welcome to The Shave Den, ptyrider!

Somehow I doubt price has anything to do with what James' girlfriend likes or doesn't like, as far as scents go atleast. :D

Well the popularity race results are in and Combe wins at four votes, followed by Pinaud trails at three votes and afta at two votes. Guess the next thing to try is the Combe and see why it won the poll.
