View Full Version : Mouthwashes
I have no idea which forum this topic fits.
I’d like knowledgeable members of this forum to list their favourite products so I (and others) can try them.
I personally have used two mouthwashes of the non-Walmart variety.
Floris Rose mouthwash
I was actually disappointed with the taste which IMHO YMMV WTFBBQ is very artificial. However, it does a good job of washing and refreshing your mouth. I won’t buy it again.
Eau de Botot
Historically, Eau de Botot is the oldest oral hygiene product sold in France. It was specially created for Louis XV by his physicist Philippe Botot, but I think the official site is wrong. Philippe was not his first name. It was Edme François Julien. His nephew François Marie Botot inherited the patent which he sold to his sister Marie-Sophie Botot. Her signature still appears on the product today.
Botot is now the property of French Rogé Cavaillès, but it is manufactured by Italian-British Manetti & Roberts, and both are part of the Bolton Group, which was founded in Italy but is now an international company with its headquarters in the Netherlands.
Eau de Botot contains anethol and thus has a strong aniseed or fennel flavour. I also detect hints of clove. It is currently my favourite mouthwash.

I would like to try the Botot,
Currently I am using Original Listerine from the drugstore. I like the menthol in there :drool
I have also tried a few from Whole Foods, including
1) Jason "Healthy Mouth"
2) Tom's of Maine Citrus
Both of those left me unimpressed......didn't seem like much more than peppermint water, and in the case of the citrus...artificial sugar water

I currently use good old Listerine! Mostly because I haven't bothered to look for anything different so I think this would be a great topic for new brands to look for.
Upgrades are always nice! :D

Mouthwash burns too much.
That Floris mouthwash, would probably get confused with my Floris perfume. I'd walk around smelling like mouthwash. :o

bought a bottle of Eau De Botot from the nice people @ Barbiera Italiana awhile back. It's very concentrated so a little goes a long way. Taste is definitely pleasant, clove-y, and very different in that it has an anise-y absinthe-y aftertaste.
Hey, I'm thinking Good Enuf for King Louis XV, good enuf for "moi":rofl
Am gonna try to include an old Advertising Poster for E'd'Botot, but don't know if this will "take" as I've never tryed before 'n I'm a reel sloe lerner
PS - Botot don't "burn" yer mouth either

I don't carer for clove either.
I apologize in advance for mentioning a main stream product, lol...
Give colgate total a try. It uses triclosan as a anti bacterial agent. Less bacteria equals less bad smell. Triclosan is also used in most all the high quality antibacterial products out there, it's main competition is chloroxynol, but that one isn't nearly as good a product IMHO.

I was reading up on Eau de Botot and found a sample listing saying it had Cinnamon, Gilliflower and Ginger in it. Still trying to find some more info, since the stuff sounds interesting and a better then the standard 'super-mint' that the typical stuff is.
Vodka works well and you dont have to spit it out..lol

....I like your thinking !
Been using:
Hydrogen Peroxide as a pre-rinse
Target Private Label "listerine" with Tartar control mouthwash afterwards.

Congratz, TJ, welcome to our elite pequeno that Lyrt somehow stumbled onto !!! We do use products fit for dead French Kings & we SPIT them out !
Being even more secretive than the Illuminati and that whole VonTaxiUndThurns "clan", I can only hint at the next product you need to move up the ranks from initiate to cognoscenti in the FFDFK Society.
Your next discovery, should you decide to tackle it:
1) Has the "secret" word KING in it's name
2) Comes out Mandarin Orange, Goes on White
3) Has invisble ball bearings which get smeared all over our ugly mugs
4) Will take puny BBS achievers to the next level which is EMS
5) It's microscopic ball bearings are actually Nano-Bots which we train to eat
the flesh of those who antagonize us
6) Costs about 6 bux. (6 being our secret magic number. Think about the Botot connection. Louis XV is really Louis VI + Louis VI + Louis III, no?)
7) Has very limited distribution is the USA because most of us Yanks are not worthy

I'll say this, if you enjoy the "mouth blasting alcohol" effect that Listerine has, and actually look for that in a mouthwash.........the Botot is of a completely different breed. It is concentrated, but you are only adding several drops of it to some warm water.
Its very smooth, and yet effectively refreshes and cleanses your mouth. But its not a "BAM, BOOM, POP" like listerine.
Make sense

In the past I had never bought mouthwash but recently I've been hooked on the Listerine Whitening. It's the results I like. Basically it's Listerine mixed with hydrogen peroxide. I have to admit it really makes my mouth feel clean. Even after my routine of brushing and flossing it never felt like this. If you can handle a vodka rinse you can handle the Listerine burn. :D

Anise (licorice) is definitely the predominant flavor, and I also get a cinnamon taste as well. Clove is most definitely in there (it helps with circulation to the gums) but I can't taste it very much.
