Hey gang, I'm a newbie..I'm fumbling around trying to figure out what the heck I'm doing, so my experience is probably due to user error. With that said:

I tried my new Taylor Rose shave cream yesterday. I think I may have made the mix a little too thin..which is probably the root of my problem...But, I noticed that all day yesterday, my face had a slight burning feeling..mostly on my neck, which is my most sensitive area. I was kind of perplexed as the Rose is said to be made for sensitive skin.

So, today I shaved with my AOS cream, and used their pre-shave oil..my face didn't/doesen't have that burning sensation at all..and, I think I had a more comfortable shave.

I'm going to give the Taylors another shot and see what happens, but so far, I think I prefer the AOS. Maybe it was the pre-shave oil that made the difference?? Any advice is absolutely appreciated.

It could be, my friend, that you have an allergy to rose-scented stuff.

The AOS is sandalwood right? If so, that would be the difference, most likely not the preshave oil. Even though it puts a coating on your skin, the ingredients in the cream are still going to enter your skin.

And don't worry 'bout the lathering, you'll get it right soon enough.

--->My advice is to practice, practice, practice.

Also, Maybe re-watch the Mantic video on lathering, or check out one of the tutorials here in the shave-soap forum.

Hey Trader Joe, the AOS is the Lavender...I'll mess around a bit more with the TOBS, I know that the lather I made was a bit thin..I'm going to give it another go, it wasn't horrible, but not as good, to me, as the AOS. I really want to love this stuff after all the good I've read about it. Thanks again.

Tough act to follow. I can't add to it. I do say stick with what is working so you get the SHAVE part to a science, then start trying new tricks.

Work on your lather a bit and make sure you are getting the water/cream consistancy right.

Taylor Rose is a bit on the heavy sweet side to me and I noticed some effect from the scenting as well. If that's the case, you can always post in the Classifieds to trade of the remainder of the tub for another cream. Someone is likely to take you up on it I'm sure.

I know this is hard to do, but when trying new stuff, just try one new thing at a time. That way it is easier to pinpoint a problem product.

Definetly try the Taylors again though.

Hi Joanna, I think your all right...I'm trying too many different things at once...The aos stuff seems to work for me, once I get everything else ironed out, I'll experiment more with the TOBS..Thanks again for all the advice.

Hey gang, just an update. I shaved with the Taylor Rose cream again this evening..even using my new Merkur HD. I did start with a pre-shave oil. This time I used more cream, got a good lather and a great shave. So, the problem last time was definitely the lather being too thin.

Glad things worked out for you. Now remember what you did so your lather making becomes consistent.

The TOBS Rose is a good cream. I am happy it worked out for you. The only one I ever had problems with was the Lavender. That was at the beginning of my shaving 'career'.....so after noting your experience.....it may be time to visit that particular cream.

Hi Brian, yes, I definitely like the Taylor Rose cream. Shaved with it this morning..Unfortunately, it was my second shave with a Merkur blade. Took two shaves with this blade to figure out I don't like them LOL. The cream is good, though.

heheheh... I was reading this thread, just praying that it was lather technique and not TOBS rose. That is such a great cream, I would hate to see it affect someone, even though YMMV and all. I was holding my breath a little. :D I never thought I could get emotional about a shaving cream!:rofl. I get a nice close shave with those creams. Great stuff.

The Rose, like all the Taylors creams that I used lathered great, but I'm definitely allergic to any rose scented cream or soap, except Barber Saloon soap. That one works vwey well for me, strange, huh?
