The latest set of scales were going to have a different blade in them ,an
1850`s W&B with a quite noticeable taper to the shank ,when pinning the pivot the blade would lift up out of the scales the tighter the peening the more the blade would rise ,hence the Torrey blade. I have struck this once before Has anyone else encountered this problem and if so what is the cause and more importantly how do you over come it. I have my suspicions but I would like a definitive answer.
Correct me if I`m wrong ,but placing the wedge in reversed may possibly work however I`m not sure
Kind regards Peter

Reversing the wedge would work, so long as it is tapered in one direction or the other. You could probably also add additional wedges of some kind near the tang to correct the taper, or a differently sized wedge at the opposite end.

I think I know what you are referring to, Peter. Thick blades with a pronounced taper need flexible scales. The wedge remains tapered to the rear.

Blades like this can be used with stiffer scales, but you may have to use a third pin along with a thicker washer next to both sides of the blade between the scales. You can also thicken up the wedge a bit, but not so much that the blade will drift through to the back side of the scales when it is closed.
