So, I'm 30 and I'd say over the past 5 years or so I've been seeing a gradual recession of my hairline. When I was young, I had a very distinct widows peak, not as bad as the kid on the Munsters (or was it the Addams family), but still pretty prevalent. Now, it's all but gone. And on top of that I started going gray around 23, and now I have a LOT of gray for someone my age. But hey, gray hair's better than no hair.

So, I know Rogain won't work for a receding hairline, and I've begun using Nioxin. I've seen limited results, but still I think positive. I think I'm seeing some light hair regrowth, but it's really uknown at this point.:o

Anybody have any suggestions for what might work?

Ron Popeil (sp?) had a product called GLH. Seemed good on the infomercials.

How much if I get the Roaster and the Knife set?

You dont get that...you get the food dehydrater.....pocketfisherman....and of course GLH

GLH= Great Looking Hair btw.

Cant go wrong with a product that describes exactly what it does to you

You all are too funny. So far I've got a recommendation for an informercial product, or to just shave my head. Unless I get a better rec, I think I'll stick w/what I'm using for now.

....that pocketfisherman is tempting though. :rofl

There is an old saying but I don't know how true it is. You don't lose gray hairs to baldness. At this point, I'm hoping to turn gray fast. :D

Seriously. Save your money. Unless you can stop the production of a certain hormone, nothing is going to work. It's genetics and your stuck with how little hair you're going to have. Be happy with who you are and you'll forget about your receding hairline. My wife tried to get me to use some different products. I asked her if she was unhappy with who I was. I also told her that I didn't have a single problem with how she looked. That shut her up. :D

Same for me. ::

If my hair starts to go gray, that's fine with me - I won't dye it, I'm not a vain person and I certainly don't like the idea of having to redye every fortnight or so. Natural is the best choice for me.
If my hair starts to disappear - that's fine too. No chemical treatments or whatever else for me - I'll then keep it either short or shave my head, it's as simple as that.

For me there are more important things in life than going mad over gray or disappearing hair.
The same goes for everything else with me: I won't use Botox or the likes and I most certainly will not allow some doctor to cut up my face just to make me look 5 years younger.

It's not really an issue of anyone else noticing, it's an issue of me noticing. I really liked my widows peak, I miss it, and I want it back.

My hair already is super short. For those of you familiar w/clipper settings, I get my hair cut down to a 2 on top and a 1 on the sides every other week.

I don't mind losing my hair, but if I can slow it down I'm going to. And FYI, hair loss isn't always due to hormones. Poor diet, bad products, or something more serious could be what's causing hair loss. And there are lots of all natural or all natural based products that promote hair regrowth. Rosemary and Saw Palmetto extract are two of them. Rosemary is in nioxin, and saw palmetto is available everywhere.

Not to get OT, but saw palmetto should be taken by the majority of men out there. I've read about it a lot, and it's beneficial for mens prostates. I did a lot of research on it, since both my grandparents had prostate cancer.

I think I'll stick w/what I've been using since I'm seeing some benefit from it. Not a lot, but more than what I've seen from any other product.

Going Kojack is ok when you're not 22 and you don't have a goofy knot on the top of your dome that looks like a camels hump -- you know, like I do.

I don't know if this will flip your skirt jramire2, but here's the Hair Loss section from Gale Encyclopedia of Alternative Medicine. Seems like you know most of what is already here.

Personally, I've been taking 5mg daily of Biotin for the past year. It hasn't made any hair regrow, but has made my hair stronger (not thicker) and it doesn't fall out as much.

Now when you say Stronger.....is it like in Superman...where his one strand of hair was holding a 1,000lb weight?

I thought about that, but thought it was like rogaine that it only worked for people w/hairloss at the back of their head, not a receding hairline.

Besides, I've heard of guys having a problem w/ED after long term use.

...I'd rather be bald than have that problem.

I actually used it for quite a while, and then for no reason just stopped taking it.

Works for 9 out of 10 dudes I think (and not just the back)

Had no problem with "ED"

And, I did grow extra hair....but it gradually fell out when I stopped taking it. THAT I would say is the only drawback.

Genetics - they'll get you in the end :(

I started going bald in my mid to late 20's. It's slightly devastating, but nothing you can't get over. I guess if you've got the funds you can try the drugs, or plugs, or "hair in a can".

But, you know, apparently us baldies are testosterone - laden He-men. Also, you can get a lot of mileage out of it with nieces and nephews (mine all thought that my brain was so big it pushed my hair out at one point). The thing I love about it, though, is that I get to shave my head every day. In the space of one year I shave over twice as much as the "follically endowed". That's gotta be a good thing :happy088

Yeah, I've heard the same thing about Rogaine. Soon as you quit using it, it all goes away pretty quick. I'll ask my doc about it, see what he says.

Conspiracy theorists would tell you that this is done by design. A drug or many drugs for every disease or fabricate a disease to fit a drug of choice. Don't cure anything. Manage it through drugs.

Once mine starts seriously vanishing, it's the brushcut or shaved look, depending on which makes me look less like Frakenstein's monster. Not really fond of the idea of taking bizarre chemicals and hormones on a regular basis. After all, we have McDonalds for that.

I can remember reading multiple times in the last couple years about studies showing green tea helping with hairloss. I payed attention because i drink a lot of green tea but not that much attention cause Im not losing my hair yet so i don't have details for you but it couldn't hurt to do some research

I've been losing my hair for around 10 years. Losing my hair is not a big deal for me. I just accept it as part of life, going bald is simply genetics at work. My wife doesn't have a problem with my hair loss, who else should I worry about caring about such a trivial item? Hair loss can be a difficult situation for some men, why else would products that claim to re-grow hair sell so well? Don't go for the comb-over or similar solutions. Besides being bald can save you a ton of money. Add up the amount that you'd spend on "treating" your diminishing hair over the course of 10 or 20 years. Just keep it short, and let nature take its course.

I think I had my last haircut a week ago. The receeding hairline and thinning scalp just scream "Kojak" to me... And I don't have a problem with it, but my wife is hesitant...

EDIT:
I need to add, I have scars down one side of the head after being run over by a drunk in a car when I was 4... they managed to stich the ear back, but it's slightly lower than the other side

I've been losing my hair since my very early 20's and shaving my head for about the last 15years. Anytime I let my hair grow more than 2 days my wife tells me to get in the bathroom and take care of it, she loves my bald head, she's actually never seen me with hair long enough to comb.

It's easier for me to walk, less wind resistance. :)

Three options the way I see it.

1. Go Kojak as has been suggested.
2. Wear a syrup
3. Or the comb over. Check this guy out below.

From what I remember, Rogaine and all the rest are freaking expensive and insurance won't cover them. So I'll add another vote to:

+1 save your money, shave it and buy a hat. And get a good quality razor if you choose to go that route. Nothing worse than the 7.99 walmart special.

I've been shaving my head for around 10 years. It thinning unevenly and looks really goofy when I grow it out. My wife agrees with my decision. Starts making jokes about those long haired hippies when it gets too long.:happy102

Actually.. if you're town has a good selection of hat stores this isn't a bad option. I'm transitioning from my summer fedora (aka: the hat that looks good on EVERYONE, it has to get reblocked constantly from people stealing it for the night) to the fall/winter one (a somber grey). Probably spent $60-70/each on them. Good quality.

If your head shape is right you can pull it off.
