Removing semi-heavy pitting

So, I just got an Improved Imperial Razor with the etched eagle and what not, and there is some semi-heavy pitting I want to remove. It doesn't look as deep as the etching is, but its definitely not light.

Is there a system that particularly works well for you restorers out there, or a grit of sand paper you would recommend starting at? Any other tips to restoring the metal of the blade would also be awesome, as this is my first blade restoration.

start with 240 and elbow grease then work your way up ,with each sucession of finer grit go at 90 degrees to the previous one ,good luck
