Good Afternoon Gentlemen,
In the past I have had repeated requests to make the "Leatherneck" and "Cavendish Black" into a shaving cream. Which I have delayed doing, because currently all my shaving creams are essential oil based.
What I would like to do is to offer you your choice of "Leatherneck" or "Cavendish Black" shaving cream for you to test against the shaving soap in the same scent that will be included.
No charge for the samples, I am asking that you cover the cost of shipping.
"Leatherneck" shaving cream...........0 left
"Cavendish Black" shaving cream......0 left
Test samples of shaving cream come in a small 3 x 5 ziplock baggie. Enough cream is in the bag to get 4 or 5 shaves maybe more...depends on your technique. And the sample size of shaving soap in the same scent should be enough to give you 8 to 10 shaves.
I do ask that you write me back to let me know what you think of the scent and the shaving cream.
If anyone is interested please send me an email to thegentlemensquarter@verizon.net

Good Morning Ladies and Gents!
Quick update....all shaving cream test samples are now spoken for.
I also wanted to mention that I will be having a "Summer Fragrance Sale" next week. I will follow with a list and pricing over the weekend.
When I began making cold process soap 4 years ago, I collected ALOT of Fragrance oils because my business revolved around....making products for women. As my business changed I began using more essential oils as they are my personal preference.
Many of the fragrance oils I had smelled WUN-derfulllllll, but would not hold there own in cold process soapmaking, so there they've been, sitting in the dark waiting for a purpose.
We are making several different batches of soap in the 1 oz. size ( measuring 2" x .50" in. thick ) perfect for trial lasting about a month, and the size fits nicely in a scuttle.
We are using the same shaving soap base that TGQ has become known for.....no cutting corners here!! You'll be assured of a Quality shave. These will be all new fragrances and when they're gone, they're gone! There will be several scents to choose from, and I'm sure several will be of interest to the women, cuz we have to shave too ;)

Colleen,
Mm-Mm-Mm!!! I just got your package with the leatherneck cream sample and it's going to be a loooooonnnnnggggg night  I have to wait until the morning before I can use it but I will!! and I'll post my thoughts.
And, many thanks for the other little sample that came in it. I've been wanting to try the leatherneck EDC. I'll be wearing it tomorrow as well. So, after using leatherneck soap, then applying leatherneck EDC (and given that I wear a military high and tight flattop), should I expect people to salute me tomorrow??:rofl

Well, my 5 yr old daughter loves it (she's looking forward to shaving with me in the morning) but my wife smelled it and went "huh". Not quite the reaction I was hoping for but she'll change her mind once I've put it on :D
Attention from any other female is unwanted.
OK, off to bed now. The sooner I go to sleep, the sooner I wake up and then......:happy108

and Leatherneck cream wins!!!!!!!!!!!!
Colleen,
I took my brush and soaked in hot water for a couple of minutes while stropping my razor. I took a teaspoon (yes, an actual measuring spoon) and scooped out that much of the cream. Shook out the brush 3 or 4 times, mixed vigorously for maybe 30 seconds. Then I added one (1) teaspoon of water and continued to "give her a good go" for about 1 more minute. *POOF* rich, creamy, velvety lather appeared:happy093
I had enough lather that I lathered my face twice, my daughter lathered her face once and I easily had enough for 2 more face latherings without needing to add any more water.
I do have to say that this cream lathered much better than your leatherneck soap and THAT is the bee's knees in quality lather so you can imagine how much better I think the cream is.
OK, but how did it do shaving?? Well, great glide, great moisture retention, great moisturizing, great, great, great!! I have been using the leatherneck soap exclusively since you sent it to me and I must say that, excluding any issues with the blade itself, I always get good shaves. This cream provided the best shave I've had in a while though for the reason I just stated.
I hope this becomes a regular product in your offerings to the shaving slaves(um, I mean public ;) )
Thanks for being willing to try something different by doing the scent in a cream. Should you make it a regular product, you can count 1 order in the waiting.

On the real, I recived a sample of the EDC a while back, and liked it, guess I have to try the soap and cream.

well you know the Marines think of you Navy guys as transportation right??:D This from a former Army Intel Scout. I can handle the side effects just fine!!!!!
all kidding aside I really like this stuff. Hey Mike if you come by the house later I can hook you up.
I did a combo superlather with the soap and cream and was amazed at the great lather. I loaded the brush with the soap and then I put about a dime size portion of cream in the center brush. I moved to the bowl and BOOM!!! lather everywhere.

I am anxious to hear what everyone has to say. I'd like to know how well the fragrance oils stay true in the shaving cream, or does it smell different somehow from the shaving soap or the EDC.....everything needs to stay true.
I included instructioins with the shaving cream, for everyone.....but if I missed somebody, then send me a PM and I'll shoot ya one over email.
It is true that the "Leatherneck" has always been liked by WOMEN :drool...LOL. This is how the leatherneck came about.......
I put a blend of oils together that I felt were masculine, but had no definate thing in mind, I let the jar sit for a day or two and when I opened the lid on the jar and was quite pleased with what came out. The next day when I went to work ( big fancy gated community ) I took the jar with me for a woman friend to smell....lol.... uhhmm "coughs"....would you mind to smell this and tell me what you think LOL.
She took the lid off and smelled the jar, and then she slowly leaned her head back with her eyes closed and said, Oh myyyyyyy....and then she opened her eyes looking at me and said, that smells just like a MAN....and then we were both laughing....cuz I said, I know....that's what I thought too. Let me smell, no..no....let me smell.... ::duel:

Argh. Missed a point here.
Yes, soap, cream and EDC all smell the same. I'll check the cream scent tomorrow morning to see what it's staying power is.
Oh, and a personal message from my daughter: she says is smells GOOD :D (she also has called it yummy)

So far so good on the scent holding up on the Cavendish Black. I'll make a bowl of each and do a sniff comparison. I'll use comparable brushes so there is no advantage that way for lather volume. The soap lather was a little light this morning with the Omega Boar Brush. I can usually get a decent lather out of that brush.
and then she opened her eyes looking at me and said, that smells just like a MAN
Gee, I didn't know I smelled like a "Leatherneck. " :D

The leatherneck cream held it's scent nicely, Colleen. I used it again this morning and it was just as fragrent as it was yesterday and as fragrent as the soap.
Of course, I can't tell you more about the EDC...I used it all yesterday. There's none left for today :o :D

Colleen from The Gentlemens' Quarter was gracious enough to allow me to test her Cavendish Black Shave Cream, Shave Soap and EDC in a head to head comparison for consistency. I've used both the cream and soap a couple of times before I went head to head with them to get a feel for them on their own. The setup I used is as follows:
Shave
Razor: Merkur 37C Slant Bar HD Double Edged Safety Razor Chrome
Razor Blades: Sharp Stainless Double Edged Razor Blades v2
Brush: Crabtree & Evelyn Edwin Jagger Made Small Best Badger Brush
Brush: Kent BK4 Small Ivory Silver Tip Badger Shaving Brush
Bowl: Petco 4" Stainless Steel Pet Water Bowl
Bowl: The Container Store 5" York Ceramic Short Canister
Shave Cream/Soap: The Gentlemen's Quarter Cavendish Black Shave Cream
Shave Cream/Soap: The Gentlemen's Quarter Cavendish Black Shave Soap
Technique: WTG/WTG/45XTG/45XTG
Post Shave
Aftershave: Thayer's Witch Hazel Aftershave
Aftershave Balm: eShave White Tea Aftershave Cream
Cologne: The Gentlemen's Quarter Cavendish Black Eau De Cologne
So, what did I do? I made two bowls of lather. I made the cream bowl with the Kent BK4 brush and the York ceramic canister. I made the soap bowl with my trusty pet water bowl and the C&E BBB brush. I consider the two brushes comparable. I used my standard cream and soap lather making techniques. The one exception was I charged my soap brush by holding the soap puck in my hand. It's a small puck and it just spins around a lot sitting in a bowl. The cream might have been fried a little from the trip because to was the consistency of a very soft soap. So I had to swirl it around an extra amount to dissolve it.
In the bowl - My lathering techniques were dead on. The cream scent was a tad lower then the soap. The lathers matched almost perfect. Nice peaks on both. Enough for 4+ passes each with ease.
On the face - I gave the toughest pass to the cream. Pass 1 since I have used TGQ soaps before and knew what to expect. It didn't let me down. The slant and sharp blade combination glided through the whiskers.
Comparison - Lather, glide and cushion were comparable. Scent stayed true in both. Cream scent lighter in the bowl. Soap scent lighter on the face. Nice pleasant aroma. Not sure why scent strength changed from bowl to face. :D Rinse off had same feeling for both. Left my face fresh and clean. Result? Take your pick. You're going to be happy with either. I suspect if the cream were shipped in a double walled plastic container, it might have been even better.
I used non scented aftershave and a very light scented balm so it would not detract or hide the cologne. The Cavendish Black Cologne stayed true to form to the soap and cream. Nice soft aroma. Doesn't burn. I didn't slop it on because I wanted to make the sample last so fade out will be quicker but lasted two hours so far OK.
Well, that's it. Good job Colleen. You passed the test. :signs107 Now, I'm just sorry all I have is the samples. :D
