Very sad. And as a former scientist, fascinating. For those who don't know, Dobermans as a breed are susceptible to narcolepsy. It's a recessive trait that has been exploited by scientists to better understand the genetic causes of the disease. They've even developed tests (http://www.optigen.com/opt9_test_narc.html) to identify individual dogs that might pass on the trait to their offspring.
