Yeah, no thumbnail on a fresh honed blade. It's better on eboy specials to see if you can feel any small nicks in the edge prior to your finish / polish honing. To be honest I haven't really used it much / at all. Big chips get honed out on my ebay razors, if there's pitting I send them to Joe C. for re-grinds other that that the coticule gets um pretty smooth.
With some stropping you should be O.k.

I see Padron got his package. What about the golf ball? ;) Glad you are happy with the haul. Enjoy!
Yesterday's mail from Jim at Vintage along with nice note. Also acquired the QED Lemon Cedarwood shave stick in a trade for MB Green Irish Tweed Type shave stick. Can't wait to try the CF and DR Harris samples. I will try the Progress as is for awhile and then more than likely will modify it to a Mergress.

Dont Shoot. me had to get 2 cans of shaving powder. it was just too silly to not try it. this was actually invented to be used on the Face !
HELL NO !!!! WAY ! the properties of the ingredient indicate major burn trouble if you dont know how to use it or mix it in the right density and dont leave it on the face too long. for me Face is a NO NO ...

Honestly I have no idea about Aqua Velva nor Royall Spyce, so I have nothing to compare it to. I couldn't wait to try these out, so I immediately splashed on some of the Blue Spice. At first I didn't like it, smelled weird to me. But it settled down nicely and was very pleasant, but short lived.
On another note, today I received a 1961 Gillette Fatboy (G-1) which I purchased to celebrate the year (and quarter!) of my birth, and a sample of Castle Forbes lime oil shave cream. Looking forward to shaving with both.

I have a couple of Old Spice Red Zone (Aqua Reef) deodorant sticks. Love the scent, BUT they cause a "red zone" in my arm pits. :signs131

This market also had 100-lots of Dorco ST300 double edge blades for $8
Also, the guy selling the Dorco blades had some straight razors, and next week will have safety razors for me to look at.

It was quite obviously a major POS, but nonetheless, I was shocked to see safety razors and double edged blades at this market, so I bought it for fun ;)

- Merkur Futur matt-chrome
- Chinese "Double Arrow Barber Razor No.66" 6/8 full-hollow, singing blade
both from herzi ::
Just found your post through the search function. Klaus, how do you like your "Double Arrow"? Where did you get it? I just ordered two of them from the same
Polish eBay site that sells the Wapis. Can you supply any more info about this razor? Thanks!
Best regards,

Hi Klaus,
I know almost nothing about these razors and, believe me, I looked for a long time. I got mine from herzi (a member here), he scored it on ebay, that's all know.
For its shaving qualities: My skin has problems with straights so I'm not objective, but I got mine scary sharp and had a rather comfortable shave with it once - the second time I've tried it was rather horrible, but again, that's probably just my skin.

It sounds like the experts are right, and and the steel is so bad that it doesn't hold an edge, at least no longer than one shave. Will see how mine behave when they arrive next week. Thanks for the info!
BTW, I'm convinced that if you have a skin problem, straights are not the problem but can rather be the solution. At least that's what all long term straight users keep saying, and from my limited experience, I happen to agree. Of course, all variables have to be tuned to the optimum. ;)

@Klaus: Believe me, I've been a daily straight-shaver for over half a year, tried many different razors and always ended up with razor-burn every other day no matter how much pressure I used, the angle at which I held it etc. My skin is so sensitive in my neck-area I even get razor-burn there if I'm not super-careful with my DEs. In my case my skin really IS the problem.
But, of course, every now and then I still enjoy a straight-shave and let shea-butter handle the burn afterwards :D

I'm sorry to hear that. Apparently some people have an even more sensitive skin than mine. :-( Didn't mean to "step on your toes", BTW.
I can see from your medicine cabinet that you have quite an arsenal! Nothing seems to help, huh? How about wearing a beard for about 6-12 months, to give your skin a break, and then start over. Did you try this? Just a thought ...
