Ok....i know i was almost hanged for my Tabac scent rant. Here we go again.

I have nothing against roses. I have smelled so many soaps/AS/Skin preps that are rose scent and it just doesnt do it for me. What is the appeal to the rose scent?

Not sure what the appeal is for the guys. Not sure I would care for a guy smelling like roses, either.

But, as for myself; I'm a girl, I like rose scent on myself.

That is understandable. I would tend to agree with you too that its more of a girl smell. But, There are ALOT of scents in rose for guys.

You're not alone. I just tried the D.R. Harris Pink, which afaik is rose scented. I'm not entirely sure I like it. Blasphemy? Maybe, but I'll give it more time before making a final decision.

I use
QED Rose Geranium soap,
MamaBear Rosewood soap and
Taylor of Old Bond Street Rose cream.
All good products that give great shaves.
The TOBS has the strongest scent of the three but I wouldnt call any of them "overwhelming" and none of them linger on me for long.
Ive never tried any of the rose flavored ASB's or skin foods so I cant comment on them.
I enjoy layering the roses with earthy scents like patchouli and find the overall shaves to be some of my favorites.

I only have Trumpers Rose SC but I love it. I don't give a damn if other people think it to be "unmanly" or "girlish", I just like it and that's who I am :D

NOOOOOOOOO

Dont get me wrong...im not saying its girlish or unmanly..or am i impying anyone is anything...im just saying i wouldnt think its a scent that appeals to men as much as lets say a Sandlewood or Bay Rum

A lot of this sort of thing is like pornography: I can't describe it, but I know it when I see it (to paraphrase an esteemed US judge). It's the same for me when it comes to scents. I like the smell of shaving products with a Rose or Lavender scent. Can't explain succinctly why I do, but I do; perhaps I was exposed to the smell of Roses and Lavender when I was in my mother's womb or something like that. I find both scents fresh and relaxing; primeval almost; no complex mingling of various scents; just plain, honest smells from nature. Feminine (perhaps), but I like it too.

By god he's got it. I never put it together. I have 4 pink shirts and I like Rose and Lavender scented shaving products. There is none as blind as those who won't see. Seriously, I do like to wear pink shirts and have done so for 40 years and I've liked Rose-scented shaving products for just as long, but uber-macho...I don't think so; not in my case anyway. I also like Tabac Original, Aqua Velva, Bay Rum, Lilac Vegetal, Proraso, Musgo Real, Old Spice Sport, Polar Ice, 4711 and the list goes on.

Don't feel bad. It was an honest inquiry.

I enjoy the masculine scented shave creams and soaps. Besides, the scents don't tend to linger after the shower anyway.

JoAnn, shower...shower, who said anything about showering. Us uber-macho guys in pink shirts, smelling like roses don't shower. And you thought OS stood for Old Spice...how about Old Sweat?

I managed to score some of the QED Wild Rose soap (it was a TOP thing) a while back, and I still think my all-time favorite soap is Mama Bear's Lavender.

I think the reason why this appeals to some (including me, to an extent), is the history of it. I mean, society today tells us guys should smell like MEN, dammit! Meaning all the "MANLY" scents.

But I like the rose or lavender (or violet, which I have yet to try, but I would think it is in the same vein) because that was a very appealing thing back in the era when straight shaving was in its heyday. It was the mark of a gentleman, as opposed to the workingmen of the time. (Not to sound snooty, but that was the middle class ethic of the era.)

Besides, it is about as anti-modern as you can get! I mean, hell's bells! I tell folks I use a straight razor, and they look at me as if I have totally lost my mind.

But that's another story! :)

But Blair...you HAVE totally lost your mind. :rofl:rofl:rofl

Personally though, I do like some rose scented products. I dont really want to smell like them all day, but soap scent vanishes quickly anyways.

I'll let you decide. :D

Rose scented and lavender items just don't do much for me. It's not that I consider them unmanly, it's that sweet floral thing. Like chocolate, I like dark chocolate. I am not a sweet fan. When I smell a lot of rose or lavender items, my senses go "ugh." There are some items I have come across that work for me though.

I agree with you there my friend. I cant stand the smell of lavender either. Now Citrus....that is a whole other story. Lime/Lemon/Verbena...love it all
