Anyone wash their face with shaving soap?

I do, on the norm I take a brush and soap, lather my face, clean off brush, hop in the shower then shave when I get out.

Today I took a brush, ran it over some soap, lathered my face but instead of washing the brush off and hopping in the shower, I did something a little diffrent.

I just rinsed the soap of my face, took soaped up brush, put some shave cream on the brush, lathered, and shaved. DAMN was it good.:D

When in a public shower, make you you sing "If your happy and you know it"

You will be surprised at how many play along. Works best with Marines. :p

Nothing strange about this Will.
there is actually a product specially for this made by Musgo Real called Lime extra Glycerine preshave soap. and I too have gotten great results with this.
The lime soap I simply tossed into a china soupe bowl and I will lather up the face with the brush in the meantime I will throw in some cream on the brush and make superlather.

meantime the face is atacked by the preshave lime lather..I then rinse the face once still plenty of slick glycerine left over ! you dont completely wash ya face but rinse once like a quick water splash (warm to hot water) then the loaded brush on your face.

works nicely so yeah this is a soap specially made for doing this but im sure any shave soap will work though this is something else because this lime preshave soap you cant use it SOLO to shave unlike a real shave soap so its more like a product from Method shaving like what the purpose of The Cube is.

keep experimenting..your never too old.

Good to know. I've been using a soap that was meant as a shaving soap but didn't lather all that well. When that's gone, I'll give the Musgo Real a try. Thanks for pointing it out.

This is interesting prep indeed :happy088

On occassion, as mentioned in other threads, I will sometimes rub a shave stick on my face, then add cream and continue building lather into superlather. Excellent shaving medium.

ie. QED shave stick + JM Fraser = :drool:drool:drool-lather

Great idea & tip Doc - thank You!

I just thought of it as a cool way to wash my face.

Lather up!

Never thought to go in too a superlather and shave right after until now. :o

It is kind of like the Famous Kyle's prep but far less work, far less detail, actually worked better for me, and a fun way to do a superlather (cuz everyone loves them.........RIGHT!). YMMV. :D

I also have a soap that did not lather well. I now use it to wash my hands and face. I must point out that I do not wash my face before shaving I use hot towels to begin prep.

I have now tried the Musgo Real Glyce Lime Oil Soap, and I'm mightily impressed. It's a big (thick) puck, and will last quite a while, so the price is reasonable. I've found three sources:

Barclay Crocker (http://www.barclaycrocker.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=barclay&Product_Code=MR10800&Category_Code=28)
Sesto Sento (http://www.sesto-senso.com/musgo_real3.html#1) (which also sells QED shave sticks, BTW)
Smallflower (http://www.smallflower.com/musgo-real/glycerin-soap-bar.html)

This soap is definitely a superior pre-shave beard prep than the soaps I've used in the past. Many thanks for pointing it out.

Your Welcome Michael.

If im not wrong I have a couple of pucks aswell on stock. just incase anyone would drop by the shop .

I agree on the longevity the soap keeps on going.

Whenever I use the Musgo Real preshave oil I will not use the Lime preshave and vice versa

That sounds like a variation of a superlather.

I pre-shave wash with Johnson's baby shampoo. There it was in the shower and I thought "what the heck" (well...ok...not "heck"). It works very well.

AFTER I shave (in the shower), I water down my lather (maybe it soap, maybe cream, maybe both) and slather my face. I let it sit while I rinse out my bowl. Then I rinse it off with the coldest water I can get (much colder in the winter!) Nice!

I tried the diluted lather pre-shave and it softened my skin too much. It looked like a puffy sunburn when I was done! :shocked031
