What amount of shave cream do you all use per session. I just bought about 4 creams and am wondering what the average is. On the creams that are in jars do you usually just dip your brushes in or scoop the product out.

I have very hard water, so I have to end up using a bit more than the "standard" amount. The "standard" amount that I've read/seen is about the size of a large almond. I use about the size of my thumb, from the tip to the first knuckle... about 1" or so of cream squirted out of a tube.

And for the jars/tubs, I use a butter knife sort of "cake icing spreader" metal piece that I snagged from the wife. It's small (about the size of one of the keys you get with a C&E metal tube) but picks up just the right amount of cream for me.

Something like this:

Tell me about it. :D

I tend to use more cream than I should. I do 3-4 passes with a pre-lather and like a lot of lather. It's OK though. I more than enough cream/soap to last me a very very long time.

I dip the brush (after a good shake). Depending on how soft your brush is, you may want to do a "dip & twist". Firm brush, just do a jab in and pull out.

MY GOSH.....just wanted to try out an almond size dab of Proraso and the lather EXPLODED in my dish. It is by far the best lather that i have ever obtained. Didnt smell the best, but it exploded in the dish.....Damn..why cant i shave four times a day :(

And there it is folks! The hook! The statement that says I'm into this big time and I like it. :D BTW, I forgot to add, depending on the hardness of the water the brush I'm using and which cream it is, I consider a large almond size the minimum.

I don't agree. I use less than a hazelnut and we have hard water, too.
At some creams more is needed. Rilanja is the cream I needed the biggest amount. Perhaps it was like a small hazelnut.
To describe the amount. If you have a tube and want to press the right amount out of it stop after 1 or 1.5 cm or to say after about half an inch. Witch Rilanja I needed about 2 cm.

Enough.

Depends on:
Cream itself,
Water,
Type of shave Im looking for.

Start with a smaller amount than you think and just augment if the lather isnt adequate.
I would say I use a "matta" size of product but
dont want to steal Tony S' thunder. ;)
Oops :o

For tubs I use the typical English forefinger for a dab. For tubes about a 1/2 inch ribbon. Sometimes my measurements aren't exact therefore I just throw some in.:D
