My gosh, after peeking at your Medicine Chest, the best thing I could say is the 12C, the open-comb version of the 38C. Presuming you want to maximize variety, although you have two razors identical except in both chrome and gold!

I voted for the OpenComb HD... I think OC is very underrated.. Go for it...

I voted open comb as well. I do really enjoy my 1904 and it does come in open comb. You could kill two birds with one.........errr........

I did that on purpose because I want to, I don't normally collect , collect the gold ones and use the polished ones. I need to pick up an HD Classic polished but that does not count for this list. :D

I find the 1904 rather 'tame'. Go for the HD Open Comb.

This idea has a lot of merit. I'm curious to the weight difference between the HD open comb and the 1904 open comb. Anyone know?

Thanks. If I am reading that right then it's 1.7 oz versus 2.75 oz.

Looks that way to me. I don't have a HD to comare the 1904 with so I can't help you with the shave comparison. Not to mention no OC's. :(

I have the HD in slant and classic so I know the weight on those. I have Parkers and they are light so maybe that would be a fair comparison. I'll have to weigh a Parker. However, I find the Parker razors a bit light for my taste.

I find the 1904 to be comparable in weight to a SS although I have not weighed them. It handles pretty much like a tech but has a more aggresive shave. YMMV I had one Parker (before it fell apart) and found it way to light.
Rich, now that you have me investing in Merkur I find myself wondering what I will get next.:D

Would I do that to you? :D
I'm with you on the Parkers. Too light for me but a number of people are going to find them a good fit.
Voted for "others"...
I think I would buy a Vision or a Progress because I really like these adjustable razors...;)

It seems the HD Open Comb had an early lead and then a flood of Progress votes came in. You're not making it easy!! :D
Someone said custom knob for the Progress. Do they have a pic?

I would go for the Slant Bar. I personally don't like the Merkur open comb design, in which the blade's edge rests directly on the comb. I like the Gillette NEW IMPROVED and NEW design, with the drop-shoulder profile that lifts the edge just above the comb. Indeed, a Gillette NEW is one of my favorite razors these days.

Probably a good choice. I just picked up a 1904 OC from another forum member. Although I really like my 1904 with the bar, the 1904 OC is a lightweight, I was very disappointed. :(

Couldn't resist. For my next razor, I'm getting a Mergress. This is a modified Merkur Progress with the plastic tip replaced with a metal fluted tip. I'm having the razor dropped shipped to the person making the modification. Modification cost is $35 including shipping plus the cost of the razor.

The Progress is a piece of over rated crap, in my not so humble opinion. Go for the 38C or the slant if you want a "good" razor. Truth be known, I really like my Schick Krona.
