My recent decision to brew an IPA led me to a pretty intensive IPA taste test. I went to the local gas station (Plez U) which happens to have the best selection in the area, and sells by the bottle. Ended up picking out around 7 IPA's.

After the taste test, Harpoon, one of my favorite brews period, still remains my top IPA.

Anyone else have a favorite rendition of this unique, but extremely tasty style? :drool

Thats quite an enticing proposition, but I'm dangerously low on stock here. I'm not even sure if the Bitter woman and Centennial are carried around here either....I'll have to check ;) (Milwaukee is where I stocked up on the IPA's - got a good 2 cases-worth variety, but that was a couple weeks ago)

My understanding is that Gary Richrath wrote Ridin' The Storm Out while traveling from their Salt Lake City, Utah booking to Denver, Colorado gig. Part of the fun of being on tour. The weather between the two locations can be merciless.

Thats funny Joe. I was thinking the same thing the other day. I'll drink a Bud Light and look for the hop profile...only to find that it is devoid of any hops. Lets not even talk about the taste...

The bad thing is that I'm becoming a beer snob. Unlike being a music snob though, being a beer snob can get expensive!

I am not a beer snob but even I don't touch that stuff, rather a PBR over Butt Light. :D

Hop Juice is a powerful Imperial IPA. It is brewed to 9.9% AVB, 100.1 IBU's, and dry hopped with a pound of hops per barrel. Hop Juice has a very strong aroma of pine and citrus. This hefty beer is balanced at the start with some nice caramel and brown sugar notes. Then it has a massive hop flavor and bitterness with some complex fruity characters.

So far, this is the best IPA I've had. Note, I believe this is Bottle conditioned. Ed - get your IPA to taste like this, and put me down for a 55-gallon drum every week

Thats because youre drinking double IPAs with 100 IBUs!!! That makes my mouth pucker just thinking about it. The typical IBU for IPA is between 40-75. Harpoon is about 42. The one I just brewed should end up around 50ish.

That 9.9% ABV aint bad though. Hopefully we should be getting some good high gravity beers around here now. They just got rid of the law saying you can't sell a beer in SC above 5 ABW (~6% ABV). Also for some stupid reason, they measure by weight, not by volume. I'll be on the lookout for double IPAs, Doppelbocks and Barleywine!

No, draft brew is not bad but I don't like my "darker" beers warmer then ice draft. Ya Dig Homey. :D

I definately prefer draft. Less chance for off tastes and bad transportation. I usually pour the bottle into the appropriate glass anyways. Got in the habit from drinking homebrew which ends up with a layer of yeast on the bottom. I'd keg my homebrew too if I had room.

Well, I turned 21 last weekend and have been drinking my butt of since, lol.

I knew from the beginning I'd be a beer snob. I never liked Bud, Coors, Miller, etc, all the mass produced American beers. Before I turned 21 I had started trying beer, I liked Stella, Peroni, Red Stripe.

Well to get down to it, this thread inspired me to try an IPA. I tried out Titan's IPA and it was damn good.

I think I may have found a beer to suit me.
