Well.. after much ado about razors..

I ended up ordering the Merkur Futur. Actually got a look at it at a shop in DT Toronto. Loved the heft of it and the size of it as it was held.

The shop that I got to look at it in was selling it for 138$ (no, I didn't buy it from there :)) I went through menessentials, which I fould out is located in Ottawa and has free shipping on 60$ or over orders, which I just reached with the razor costing 60$.

I also ordered the variety pack of blades from west coast shaving so I can see about what blade seems to work best.

Now, I was looking through this forum and came accross a post with someone offering free shaving creams, * sigh *, if only I had joined around that time.

Does anyone have any suggestions to something along the lines of a variety pack of creams to try, or some kind of "variety pack" of creams? Recommendations of any ones to try?

I've looked at Poraso and was considering that, but welcome any suggestions..

Now just waiting for the razor to come in.. .

Oh, you just opened a can of worms. :D You'll get a lot of posts shortly. There is no "official" sample kits of creams but someone may help you out.

lol.. maybe I can use them for my upcoming fishing weekends..

Just looking for some guidance, and if I can't get it here.. well, then that's another can altogether.

PS - For the record I am not looking for freebies and hope it didn't come accross that way. That being said, any freebies? Anyone? :D

Is there a Crabtree & Evelyn Store near you? They give out shave cream samples. Proraso is a good starter too except Target dumped it for some reason. Kiss My Face from Vitamin Shoppe is also good. Don't worry, I didn't think you were looking for freebies. :D Oh, the list goes on and on.

Well. Since you are in Toronto, pick up some JM Frasers and a bottle of Polar Ice aftershave splash to get you started.

Absolutely! The Booster is a must, especially if you hail from Canada :happy088

There is a Crabtree & Evelyn. Toronto Eaton Centre, and since I work right by there, I suspect I'll be there tomorrow.

Target isn't good, as it is US only. :(

Thanks.

A big tub of JM Frazer should do you just fine.

If you work by the Eaton Centre, head over to Dundas and Bay, go into Toronto Barber and Beauty Supply, and get a big white tub of JM Fraser's, Canada's shave treasure.

We know of what we speak! :rofl

You're right, Target isn't in Canada (although we had a close call with the prospective acquisition of The Bay/Zellers a couple of years ago!), but Proraso is. Many Shopper Drug Mart stores, and a few of the smaller chains sell Proraso. A small selection of the Proraso range, mind you, but the shaving soap cup, and pre/post shaving cream are usually available. Good luck!

Jimmy.

I should have mentioned -- while you're at your local SDM, be sure to pick of a tube of Florena (or, if you're near a Wal-mart, pick it up there as it's a buck or so cheaper). Florena is an amazing cream for the price, and very widely available for us Canucks.

Lastly, if you're at the Eaton Centre anyway, stop by at the Body Shop there (I'm assuming that there is one there...it's been a while since I've been in downtown 'Trana) and get a tube or tub of their shaving cream. They will also give you a sample of some on request, to try before you buy.

Cheers,
Jimmy, insomniac tonight, for some reason. No reasons related to shaving or TSD, of course! Maybe it's the Queen of Blades or sumpin'... :D
