You just inherited a huge amount of money. You can now buy any cream or soap you want. Money is no object. What would you buy? I don't mean a laundry list of all the creams and soaps you want to try. For me, that would be about everything out there. I mean something like top three to five no expense. Something that you wouldn't normally buy for yourself because it costs way to much to justify.

If I came upon a lump sum, I'd be on the first flight to Italy, and I'd come back with a case of Italian Floid :D (and various other Italian stuffs) ::

If I had an unlimited supply of money to buy shaving supplies I would spend it on developing the best shaving cream/ soap available. I would hire a dedicated team of aestheticians and dermatologists to formulate a cream matched specifically to my skin type.
I'm thinking a mix of Rose Bourbonia (aka Edward Rose) Hawaiian Sandalwood and Neroli essential oils on a base of Nilotica shea butter with lots of Meadowfoam Oil, genuine Cashmere amino acids and exotic clays.
Aside from that I'd keep a war chest to go after every single vintage, tallow-based soap to come up on eBay.
Regards,
Alex

(I'm gonna try anyway even with limited funding)

Penhaligon's soap, Joris soap...
But I imagine I'd really be dropping out the money on whatever Will G's soap I could find.
I know there hafta be a few gents with a couple pucks in the reserve they'd let go for the right price.
....I still have a puck of the Joris soap up for grabs. ;)
NIT (New In Tin).

A trip to NYC to snag some Coate's tea tree cream at that Pasteur's? drugstore. Don't really care whether it is old or new formula.
A hunt for that Yardley shave soap.
Floris soap/bowl.
That's it, really.

It's tough to beat the creams of Penhaligon's, Coates, eShave, andHarris.
Blenheim Bouquet, at $40 per tub, is the most expensive I own, and one of the very best.

Well, that would be the Aqua di Parma shaving cream (30£/60$ a pop!), Penhaligon's SC and maybe some hard to find vintage soaps.

Aqua di Parma shaving cream (30£/60$ a pop!),
Thanks for reminding me, I wouldn't mind the Aqua di Parma shaving set, including:
1. The brush & stand
2. The Shave cream
3. The Aftershave splash
4. The Cologne
and while you're at it - a bar of the bath soap and some talcum to go with it ;)

You guys have got this far and nobody has mentioned Trumpers
does anybody know of anywhere on the web (or in London) still selling Coates, they stopped making it before i got a chance to try it, but so many people have recommended it i was hoping to find a shop which has some old stock
Mitchell's Wool Fat Soap with Ceramic Dish. (OK, maybe not luxury but the dish is cool)somebody told me that is the same stuff as the Kent shave soap, just sold under a different name, as kent is easier to find i brought some from www.grooming-health.com/shaving-soap.htm but i dont get it, maybe i'm using it wrong i just cant get a decent lather from it

For me I think it would be:
Coate's, Penhaligon's; I would try to bribe someone for their old formulation Taylor, T&H and some other discontinued or no longer in production creams.

YMMV but to me Mitchell's is exquisitely luxurious when it's badger battered into a froth of super-rich LANOLIN lather. The whole Mitchell's line is s-o-o-o
good for all the skin on your glorious NAKED BODY....Bath Soap, Shampoo, Shower Gel, Body Lotion & dirt cheap for the quality, the lanolin, the Legend...
Mitchell's shaving soap is the only soap this Creamery Guy will dip his badger bristles in....Ummmmm Good

Good to see another Santa Maria Novella fan. Also the Pre-Dopo.
And of course if money were no object this would be a pick-up purchase at the counter of Santa Maria Novella Farmacia.

So JoAnna,
Have you used the Santa Maria Novella shave cream? I can hardly keep my wife's hands off of mine. I recently tried convincing her that she would prefer Proraso, (hate it myself), but she wasn't sold.

Then I'd fly over to Britain and pay Creightons to run a batch of Coates Tea Tree just for me. Fly back and then help Mike clean out Enchante'. :drool

What the heck is it about the Coates TeaTree that made it so great ?
Everywhere I look, shavegeeks are babbling over them / our selves about this mystical cream.
Enlighten me O wise one :o

I'm not Mark, but I managed to score a tub a while back in a Sale/Trade, and it's about 90% full. I've used it a few times, and to me, simply because of the hype/mystique surrounding it... it's the Most Overrated Cream in history.
Just my opinion... it's good stuff, but not ZOMG MUST HAVE WILL KILL PEOPLE OVER good.
Not like T&H 1805... ;)

YMMV. ;) I'd take 'Tea Tree over '1805 any day of the week (Trafalgar on the other hand would be a more difficult decision).
Rick, for me it was a combination of factors. While lather from the Coates line wasn't too different from the other top-shelf British creams (though I found it slightly easier to get a good lather going), Tea Tree in particular really seemed to benefit my skin, particularly if I had a blemish or irritation from a previous shave (no doubt due to the mildly anticeptic properties of tea tree oil). I also happen to like the scent of tea tree (yeah, I'm weird).

You guys....
I can dig it. ;)
Ive been a Melaleuca fan for about 15 years now.
What Ive done is take a squirt of KMF Unscented and just added a cuppa drops of the TeaTree EO right to it.
THAT is one great shave.
I was just curious about the Coates cause of all the press it gets.

Well it is about the largest tub available at 250 grams. So gram for gram it's not too bad. AND...a little goes a long way. I know that is true for many of the top brands but we (MBW and I) have been using it since the end of April and probably still have 200 grams left.
In fact after my last post last night, I had a wonderful shave with SMN before MBW got home, and right now, a little after 5 PM, I have not even a hint of five o-clock shadow. It was also very soothing and relaxing.
In addition to being nearly addicted to the stuff, we just recently visited SMN in Florence, Italy and oooh the memories.

I've tried and tried and tried the soap. It's one mean little devil to lather up. I gave the soap away and put a puck of Penhaligon's EF into the bowl :D
