Don't be dissin my deodorant. :) The Italian chicks love it. A little pesto sauce ASB works wonders too. Drives them nuts. That poor bottle of Aqua Velva I have is collecting dust in the bottom cabinet way in the back. It might see the light of day someday.

Well, I went and done it. I got home last night and washed my face and then put a light splash of Aqua Velva Ice on my face. Stayed away from the wife for about 15 minutes and then got near her. She said, "what's that?" I said, "Aqua Velva Ice." She said "You going out on a date?" I said "nope, just testing." She said, "you should try something else." :)

Now, you tell me. :) That's OK, I needed to clean the sink drain anyway. I'm sure I can track down a sample of classic or musk and try again. If all else fails, I can go to the drug store and ask the clerk to let me try some just before going home. Of, course, I might get a few extra questions about where I've been and what's her name. :signs081

It can change the scent once you put it on yourself. It will mix with your body chemistry.

If it still doesn't smell good, maybe it's just you. :D

Smell any diffrent?

Yes, yes it does. My guess is that to the "average" nose, there might not be a noticeable enough difference....but an aficionado like you would certainly notice:

1) Smoother scent, not as potent
2) More powdery-like scent
3) less menthol

The pour spout is wide, and so it comes out in very large quantities if you're not extra careful....and this is the only low mark I can give it.

Overall, however, I like it better than the US version :happy088

Just to stir the pot.

I'm still a nay-sayer. I've reluctantly tried some of this cheap garbage, and the negative responses I've received from the ladies fell along the lines of "what the hell are you wearing?". It didn't go over well at all.

Even though I do use Old Spice and Pinaud Clubman (these two still get positive responses from the ladies), I prefer the more sophisticated AS/EDTs such as Penhaligon's Opus 1870, Pecksniff's Oriental Woody, Floris Santal, and Knize 10. I've never had a negative reaction to any of these scents, in fact overwhelmingly positive.

So label me a blasphemer, call me a witch and burn me at the stake, or maybe firing squad at dawn. They'll be no more $6 AS's in my medicine cabinet!

How old is that AV Joe?

That's what I believe to be the box that held the original "Williams Aqua Velva", which came out in 1929, remained in production into the mid to late fifties and looked like this:

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u239/TraderJoe_album/1929velva.gif

I have a feeling that the "original sport" (green version) released recently in Canada is a remake of this original 1929 version.

Neale, I'm afraid the antique Aqua Velva's don't hold up as well as say, Old Spice....and I think its a factor of clear-bottle vs. Opaque.

However, Rich says that his Aqua Velva (original) from ~1950 has held up pretty well......but the Ice Blue's I have from later dates have faded rather dramatically :sad024

I have a feeling that the "original sport" (green version) released recently in Canada is a remake of this original 1929 version.

Maybe that is why it is so damn good! ::

Well one has to make a decission, which is more important to him his Acqua Velva or a the woman in his life. Personally I'll take the woman over the Acqua Velva, might seem like a sin but this is just the eway I feel.

Here's the thing.

Aqua Velva is the aftershave equivalent of raw testosterone.

ALL women are attracted to it, but the man wearing it has to know how to wear it to "pull it off"

Great video Doc :D

A blind man once stepped on Aqua Velva's shoe. Aqua Velva said, "Don't you know who I am? I'm Aqua Velva!" The mere mention of its' name cured this man's blindness. Sadly the first, last, and only thing this man ever saw, was a fatal roundhouse kick delivered by Aqua Velva.

I like AV Musk, and the other cheapies (Old Spice, Clubman, Mennen, but I simply can't stomach the smell of AV Classic Ice Blue once the alcohol dries. I bought a bottle about a year ago, dumped it down the drain. After hearing the continuous litany of praise on the forums, I figured I must be missing something, so I bought it again. But down the drain it also went. Man, does that stuff stink to my schnoz!!

Skin Bracer and Aqua Velva were the only things my father would allow me to use when I was first leaning how to shave. If your shaving technique sucks, these products (especially the Skin Bracer) will let you know!! I still love using them today.

It's truly amazing how long some threads last, isn't it? Especially given the topic at hand here! Not saying it's good or bad, but IT'S A GROCERY STORE PRODUCT for Pete's sake!!

So, buy some already. If you like it, great! If you don't, you're out 5 bucks.

Or you could sell it to Will for $10.

Sparky, I think you've nailed it. It must be the "Agent Blue" that makes addicts of us. No wonder some men are reduced to drinking the stuff.

Well, after reading this thread, I just had to go out and buy some. Unfortunately, I'm still waiting for my razor, brush, and soap to arrive, so I had to use my Fusion with the fusion Gel.

OUCH!

Smell nice though, and the extreme burning went away, so all is good. :D

Oh, hi, hello Shave Den dudes.. so my first post here on the site is in the AV thread. I had me some years back when I was but a bachellor. I don't even think I really used it correctly (I kept it on my dresser in the bedroom, what does that tell you). Anyway, I don't know what happened to it, I either threw it away or dumped it out at some point.

Picked up a bottle a few months back and am now an avid fan. I love the feel when putting it on, I love how it makes my face feel, even hours later I like the scent, but it really isn't an issue because, I don't need to use so much that the people around me actually smell it.

What I find interesting is that it actually compliments some of my colognes, ranging from expensive stuff like Floris 89 all the way to Ogallala Bay Rum.

I like the Musk too, but I actually use that as a cologne, it's just a bit too strong of a scent to be right on my face...

on a side note, I recently picked up a bottle of Skin Bracer.. LOVE IT TOO. It wears very sweet after several hours, even leaning towards sandalwood or vetiver.. I don't know what the notes are but I really dig it.

Wife: Honey, I just found a bottle of Aqua Velva in the refrigerator. Do you know anything about that?

Me: I put it there, dear. I thought if I chilled it, it would add to the cooling affect when I splash it on my face.

Wife: Sweet heart, do you have a drinking problem?

Me: Hun? What are you talking about?

Wife: I’ve heard that sailors drink Aqua Velva and you were in the Navy. Do you have more bottles of AV hidden around the house?

Me: Hey, I don’t have a drinking problem. I read at the shaving forum that putting AV in the fridge gave it a little extra zing when you splash it on the face.

Wife: Shaving forum? You belong to a shaving forum? Mother warned me that she thought you were a little strange.
