I'm out of this one. Nobody makes a traditional Philly Steak around here so I wouldn't know a good one if it bit in the a.. I'm open to recipes though. I need to season my cast iron some more.

Okay, now I feel truly deprived. My in-laws live about two hours from Philly and I have never had cheese steaks from any of those places! My education in cheese steaks is sorely lacking!

You can try to make a cheese steak but unless you use a roll from a Philly bakery made with actual unfiltered Philly "WOODER" there ain't no way it's gonna taste like the real thing.

Kind of like a top split hot dog bun for a lobster roll. It's not the same unless you use the right ingredients. I think a bread recipe search is in order. :D

Looking at the TV schedule for tonight, I noticed that, on the Food Network (9:30), the show "Road Tasted" is in Philly. One of the segments is Philly Cheese Steak at Campo's. Can't say I've ever had cheese steak (I know, I've been deprived, but all things considered, I've never been to Philadelphia) and I know nothing about Campo's, but thought I'd let you guys know in case you're interested.

On the rare occasions that I'm in Philly, I have to eat at either one, then walk across the street and have a second at the other.

Trader Joes (the store, not the resident shaveden studmuffin) sells packages of shaved beef that work quite well for homemade cheese steaks.

I usually don't try to exactly duplicate the Philly legends. I like to add sauteed mushrooms and peppers, as well as the requisite onions, and I'll confess to using provolone.

Don't make Joe's head get any bigger than it is. :rofl

Provolone is not bad but I perfer it on a "pizza steak" wit/out onions.

Wal-mart makes a decent rolls in their bakery for this type of sandwich and I think they have shaved steak too.
