Klaus, I sometimes find that it's easier to shave with a soap than a cream, when I use my straight razor. Especially, when I use a rich, full power soap like Erasmic, or Tabac, or Golddachs, or De Vergulde Hand. The lather stays slick, moist and stable with these soaps, so it gives the skin the necessary lubrication. With a cream, I'm a little nervous to use the straight, because I have visions of the razor slipping, and slicing myself to smithereens! :o :o

Hmmm.... I find that both soaps and creams gan give great straight-shaves. With soaps the Tabac and Erasmic come to my mind, but there's also some great, slick and protective creams, like the Castle Forbes, Tabula Rasa, Musgo and Olivias stuff. It all depends on the individual product, but, YMMV of course

How do you like the star razor?
The Star is not a razor I would try for my very first DE shave.;) It's very close to the Gillette Tech, It has a little more blade exposure, not a bad shaver. I've used it with the Crystal's and it was fine. Got a little razor burn with the Feather, no nicks though. I want to try it with a Wilkinson UK next.
That will have to wait though, the 38C and my Rooney style 3 (small) came today.:D

Oh, yes, a very, very nice cream. Is it worth the price? Not really. There are cheaper creams and soaps out there that come close. I used the cream as a pre-lather, went two passes with a brush and then squeezed the last of the lather out of the brush and used my hand and a touch of water for cleanup. Result: 4.6/5.0 BBS with minimum redness. I had the Futur at 3.5. I bought the Cremo Cream as an experiment. I have a ton of regular creams and soaps that do as good or better job. What I wanted to try is not to make a super lather but use the Cremo Cream in a way it was designed to be used. I did my pre-lather and regular passes with the Col Conk Lime Soap. Nice but a little more drying than I expected. I then rinse off my face before cleanup and put on a layer of the Cremo Cream, added hot water and smoothed with my hand. I dipped fingers in water and added water as needed. Guess what? It did exactly what I wanted it to do. It made the cleanup stage super slick and the Futur just glided all over my face with my j-hooks and blade buffing to get that last little piece of stubble with zero irritation. With the Cremo Cream having a coconut scent and the Col Conk was lime, I had a tropical shave. :D

Quit drooling, you'll dilute the cream! :D
If you dig the DR Harris Sandalwood splash scent, get the Green Pond cream. They go great together.
bernard66 over at SMF has called Green Pond Sandalwood cream the "most accurate" version of true Sandalwood scent there is right now, and I tend to agree with him. Granted I'm not nearly as experienced as he is, but there ya go.

Thick and lubricious...rubbed it in wit me fingahs
Took the Futur to town and really tried to hurt myself a little.
Shaved over some bare spots a cuppa times....blade buffing with very little foam.
No damage done.
Great shave.
