That's right brudder - it has menthol in it. Not an alarming amount by any means, but its in there.....and thats what matters:cool:

Enjoy those menthol goods, I think you will really enjoy the scent and cooling of Lustray Menthol, and that Alpine Menthol will take good care of your mug. Very good skincaring effect, and Interesting ingredient list in that one - very unique :happy088

Aramis Shave Soap ....

OH Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Where did you live again TJ, wait let me check my PP invoices be right at ya.

NICE !

If only it lathered as good as it smells.......

Actually, I got a superb shave with it today. Its good and slick, and will give a nice close shave......but the lather is thin/weak. First go with it this AM, and I will admit that any non-glycerin soap usually will take a few uses to come to life, so I'm going to give the Aramis the chance to prove itself :D

I've got the same problem with an Ogallala soap. I'm trying to bring it to life. Maybe it needs a jolt of electricity or something. Slick and cushions OK though. They're going to have a meeting of the soapmaker minds to see if they can address the issue. In the mean time, that's what KMS unscented is for. Add lather where needed. Good Luck on the Aramis!

Can you take out the puck ? or is it solid inside the package? I was thinking to do a test as a shave stick but then with a puck wet face use the puck all over the face then a wet brush and try directly on the face ?
sounds like you need to tad off a little bit with water there... I hardly have problems like you mention with shave soaps well hmm not quite.. the Kent Soap in a bowl calls the same experience slick enough but thin/weak. usually my soaps are ok..its the creams that can be tricky...

TraderJoe

Puck can indeed be taken out.....but again, I do believe this soap needs to be given a chance yet. I certainly have not thrown down the towel on this one.

I can use "most" soaps with no problem, but a limited few I have had problems with. Now, a lot of people dog the williams, and I love that stuff.

I don't even want to hear it about the *ADs! Today I picked up two more straights from a local antique place. One, an Antelope, has a beautiful blade but the scales are shot (candidate for restoration by Joe or Bill). The other is a Shumate that just needs a good cleaning and I will hone it up and use it. I'll post some before and after pictures if I can.

Good for you Palmetto , I know the feeling I have 14 straight razors going all over the place you can imagine it was hell figuring out who is the right guy for the right razor , I look at what the expertise of each guy is and then the razor goes off , I have a couple of ideas in my mind what to do with the razors and thats about it I give all freedom (within a certain budget ) to the restorers.
Robert,Bill and Joe were my choices. I would love the scales of Vlad but no one seems to know where the guy is his scales are like well you have too see them to believe anyone can make such scales !

Aramis shave soap has a super scent, but the lather really didn't do me proud at all. In fact, it even gave me a slight rash on my neck, so I guess it's just not for me, although Aramis edt most certainly is.

you wouldnt want to know what this package must have been going thru on its journey on top of that it was not insured which isnt Joe's fault but we have to find a way how to insure the next package because global priority most certain does Insure packages I remember getting one last year insured.

The Envelope was found in my mailbox like this ...no tempering here to make it look even worse ! it could have easily fallen out during transit why no one taped it up ! is a mystery to me. my only guess is this came by a courrier organistation thats why it was not stolen or lost USPS probably the razor would have been stolen. My advice to Sellers using this kind of envelope is double pack. Joe wrapped the razor in good thick bubble wrapp and lots of paper around the razor. but then he should have placed it in some sort of plastic thin bag or some sort of bubble package that would fit inside this cheap carton Global Priority envelope. Most seller double wrap when using Global Priority incase the outer tears the inner envelope wont let the contents fall out....

That said ..let us enjoy this razor and the pics DONT do it Justice !
Shaved with it..very sharp ! I didnt strop it before use ! simply used it as it arrived great balance and great Eye catcher........

Pompelmo - Grapefruit
Salvia -Salbei Sage
Alloro-Lorbeer Bayleave.

All soaps based on Extra Virgin oil .

I only tried one of the soap. the skin care is awesome since its 100% natural.the ability to lather is a second problem. I'll have to change the recipy and let the farm work on it more I'll try the two others and see how they perform my guess is too much use of olive oil preventing the lather to explode. soap has potential but the balance needs to be tweaked.

Oh, and GREAT haul, Rene!

Just one word on the soaps: Shaving soaps from pure olive oil are a delicate thing. Olive oil may be very gentle but it causes two problems:
a) the lather will be mediocre (as you've already experienced)
b) They tend to be TOO soft, so people with a thick beard may have trouble with the soap not softening those whiskers as well as it should.

Olive oil is great as an additional ingredient, but it shouldn't be the main one for shaving soaps - and I've got this info from a very resourceful and knowledgeable soaper myself.

I just pulled the trigger (http://cgi.ebay.at/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110116517564) on a next-to-brand-new Gillette Old Standard from 1919.
The handle has a small crack, but that's to be expected. It doesn't come with a box but as I don't collect razors that's no issue for me - I just wanted a good looking razor of one of the first Gillette-models and that's what I'll get.
Maybe 40€ is a bit too much, but then again, you hardly see these things in such a great condition and if I import in from the US then customs may sting me.
I'll just hope it'll be a decent shaver, I don't expect it to be GREAT, but good it should be...
Ah well, I'll report when it arrives :D

Danke Klaus,

for our english members.

Thanks klaus,

Great to know your a soap master yourself
indeed the soap gives alot of troubles being so the main ingredient is extra virgin oil im affraid and some other oil .works marvelous as an extra addition to making superlather but on its own it will stay weak like you said.
I use a boar brush today and wasnt able to create lather that stays. I then picked up my muhle dry ! brus and just wet the brush very briefly under the tap then went like a maniac on the soap the soap with a half wet.dry brush that resulted in a much thicker layer on the face ! still the same problem starts to evaporate quickly.
this soap is great for extra sensitive skin the skin care is 2nd to none and there for great to use as superlather builder like what the Cube does for the method shaving this product could be called '" The Enabler " .....

Rene, there seems to be a misunderstanding: In no way am I a soap-maker myself, I only quoted one I know ;)
But I agree, combined with shaving cream the olive oil soap should work mighty fine for sensitive skin, but then again, shea-butter and/or arganoil would be even better options than olive oil. That's why the Tabula Rasa cream is one of my favourites, it contains arganoil, sheabutter and mango-butter, about the best substances for skin-care available. No need to go for superlather with that one :D

Oddly enough, I don't really use the CD player much anymore since the advent of the ipod. But the sound is very good (this is at least 5 years old) but is has been relegated to the beeping sound that gets me to the next shave.

As for your CD mechanism, if you have a Bose store near you, go see them. I find them to be very helpful and you never know, you might even get a replacement. A buddy of mine told me that for $100 they let him trade in his old model (like mine) for the new front loader type Bose radio. Just a thought. :D
