Doesn't sound like you're complaining! :p
Has she ever tried Taylor's of Old Bond Street Avocado shave cream? I have tried lots of creams and soaps, and I find the Avocado to be the most moisturizing to my legs.
What blades is she using?
MoM...thats what I'm gonna call you !! :rofl
Lovie has not chosen a specific blade....yet.
I was just giving her my old ones to experiment with but
She put the KaBosch on that.
So far.....since I dont use them much (re: at all)
the Merkur blades have been working alright for her.
I'll put your stamp of approval on the TOBS Avocado for future reference......

Tell me you don't mean old, as in used, blades??
Merkurs were awful!!!
What about Feathers or SHARPs? Has she tried those yet?
Oh and btw, is "Lovie" allowed to come out and play?? :p
YEP !!
Old , nasty used blades.
I figured they were still a step up from the 4 month old Bic she was using.
She didnt see it that way
Just started her on the Merkurs.....prolly try my Derby's next.
Lovie IS allowed to come out and play but I'm not sure if she'll play NICE !! ;)
I'll let her know there are nice girls here to play with. :D

Actually no, the used blades would not be a step up. Even from a 4 month old Bic. Men's hair is coarser and dulls the blade faster.
Derby's hurt me THE worst. I can send her some SHARPs and/or Feathers to try, if she wants.
"Lovie" is more than welcome at The Shave Den. In fact I'm personally extending an invitation to her.

I got my wife started with a Savile Row SR-212 (Super, 30mm knot), and some Saint Charles Shave soap (Savory Rose & Orange Sorbet). She was still using the "Venus" razor until recently.
Now, she has a Wilkinson Classic DE and a Gillette Ladies TTO DE in blue. RIght now she is going through some 7AMs and Sharps blades. SHe's gotten some more soaps now too -- a couple of Mama Bear's that weren't working for me (Somali Rose & Hydrogen) and an SCS Shave Stick for Chicks.

Atleast someone around here knows what they're doing! ;)
Great job Chris! :happy088
If any of y'all's ladies want to come out and play, they are all welcome!
Of course some of you guys probably think that's as bad as her using your razor to shave her legs, huh? :rofl :rofl
The plus side, is her increased interest in your (and now, her) ADs.

I had a hard time getting started with the DE, too. Once I found the right blades though......nothing to it.

Maybe you should buy her the pink handled eShave brush. Then she'd have to use it atleast a few times. Then she'll be hooked. :signs136

My pretty little wife has been varying between mystraights (!!!!), my old Mach3 and recently a british aristocrat that I got from a friend. The only blades we have at the moment however are the old gillette blades that came with it (really old). She actually got a case of razorburn on her ankles from those so now she won't use it untill I've gotten her some better blades. Can you recommend any?
As for soaps etc either MB's Sandalwood&Vanilla (that I can't use on the face but works just fine for her legs.) or one of my soaps and creams combined with my silvertip badger brush.

04-18-2007, 04:43 AM
Alex, I would recommend SHARPs for your wife. They are the best blades for ladies IMO, and provide a greater allowance for user error (more forgiving).
We ladies certainly have small areas (like the ankles) that like to offer themselves up to razor burn quiet easily.
I have also found TOOBS' Avocado shave cream to be the best cream or soap for my legs. The legs have few oil glands and have a tendency for dryness. So the moisturizing abilities of the Avocado cream is terrific for that particular area.

I'll have a look around for those then. I know René sells the sharps and he's not too far away. Now just to find a spot for the Taylors advocado though.

Wife refuses anything except bar soap and disposables. It's too much hassle for her. She's really not into the grooming product thing. That's my department. She does appreciate it though when she desperately needs something for her skin and I can whip out 2-3 choices for her to use.

Hi JoAnna,
I noticed you said that a man's beard wears a blade out faster than a woman's leg hair? When I was a teenager, I used a double edge razor. It was the 60's and Gillette had a blade called the "Spoiler". Anyway, one day I started to shave and realized my blade was not in useable condition. I asked my teenage sister if she used it and she looked embarrassed but confessed that she had.
I had to put in a new blade, to continue shaving. I'm curious, why do you suppose her using my razor would have rendered the blade useless?

Guess I should have stated my point a little differently.
Depends on how many times she used the blade, and which areas she shaved.
Leg hair is finer than underarm hair and bikini area hair. And of course everyone's hair is different levels of coarseness. Women shouldn't even share a razor because of the differences.

Hyperwarp- Have you tried getting her a Ladies Gillette to try. If she doesn't like it, you can always resell it for pretty much what you bought it for. So, not much to lose.
Glad to hear she likes the Avocado though. :D
As for the pink brush, the handle isn't as long as it looks in pictures  , and mine is in pure I believe (too scratchy for my taste). Buy her the pink brush in best or better yet, just buy her a C&E Best Badger Brush.

I think I've always had the 2 blader, but next time I buy some, I may have to try the single blade just for the experience.

I say just get yourself a long handled DE Razor and a blade pack,
If you don't like it, sell it here or their or anywhere. :D
I bought my wife a few rose scented soaps from MB and her Attar of Roses cream, A long handled Blue Gillette. She's scared of their sharpness. Years ago before I found out about wet shaving I asked her about a straight for me. NO. She has a phobia about straights.:ashamed001
I used the Lady's Gillette on her.:D But she only used it herself a couple of times.

I've tried and tried, my girlfriend likes the whole brush and soap (or cream) idea but shes afraid of my DE's. she thinks she will slice her legs up. so for now she still uses the Venus. Its a shame because i stopped using my DE razors back in march and switched to straights only, now i have a vintage GEM, Gillette and an almost new Merkur Futur just collecting dust:(

Hi

Any advice on leg shaving
Liz
I'm sure JoAnna will be along soon with lots of info but, in the mean time......
Taylor of Old Bond Street makes a wonderful shave cream from Avocado oil.
It does not smell like avocados but it is very moisturizing and gives a great shave.
Thanks for stopping by !!
.........................just went back and reviewed this thread.
Apparently we have already discussed the TOBS Avocado cream :D

Guys and ladies, I need your advice :D
Tha last few weeks a school-friend of my brother came over a few times because their internet-connection wasn't working and to learn together and whatever.
We get along quite well and at one point she asked me about my collection of shaving stuff, looked through it, sniffed and touched and was quite impressed. She also said she shaved her legs with a cartridge-razor and goo from the can and I told her that those DEs could also be used for leg-shaving and that there once were ladies-DEs as well. She seemed quite interested.
So, my question is: How do I go about it to get her interested in using a DE? I mean, I could offer her to shave her legs but that would be a tad inappropriate as I don't know her that well ;)
Any ideas?

It depends a bit, but I would certainly consider bidding on a Ladies Gillette as a gift for her! I don't know if you want to spend that money on a girl you don't know at this stage, but then again, why not?
If she is as interested as I understand from you description I would consider it. Just as a random act of kindness, I like such things!
There are always some on ebay, and they can be landed for reasonable prices too! And you probably already have enough blades to get her started.
And you would certainly make her happy!

Welcome to The Shave Den, Liz!
Are you using a safety, a cartridge, or a straight razor? Have a brush?
Ummm...advice, let's see.

My g/f uses the typical disposable stuff from the store when she shaves. As mentioned by someone else she has the I wear long pants so no need to shave attitude.
But when she does I wouldn't call it shaving. More like butchering. You would think Freddy Kreuger shaves her legs. :rofl

Hi all,
I have an answer for the sister who wore out the razor. Skin as well as hair causes blade wear. Shaving a pair of legs wears the blade as much as 5 days of facial shaving.
