OK, it seems that each person at some point develops a favorite theme in their shaving product repertoire. For some, it's a scent such as Rose, Lavender, Bay Rum, Old Spice, etc. For others it may be a product line like Truefitt & Hill, Tabac, Taylor of Old Bond Street, Proraso or maybe one of the three Sues (Mama Bear, Honey Bee Spa, Saint Charles Shave). And then, there are the menthol heads. The coolest of the cool. They put the ice shavings in shaving. So what is? What's your theme? Right now, I gravitate towards "citruspice" warm spiciness with a hint of citrus. I want it bloom not go boom.

I have narrowed my cream/soap preferences down a considerable amount since beginning wetshaving, again, in mid-2005. However, I don't know that I have yet arrived at a 'theme'.
My preferences are for Lavender and Rose, along with 'Clean' or 'Modern' scents.

my favorite scent theme seems to be a barbershop scented soap, like Erasmic, or De Vergulde Hand. But, I do switch around...

At the moment I am enjoying Williams soap supercharged with Palmollive brushless cream. Not really a theme but it does make a very nice lather.

I don't think I've got a true theme yet. But, I definitely graviate to woody/base notes -- sandalwood, patchouli, vetiver, etc.

For me it's either citrus-centered scents (AdP, Arlington, Trumper limes soap and cream, Taylor St-James abd a few others) or otherwise manly stuff like Tabac or Mr. Taylor. On sundays a little rose can be nice as well.

Menthol, menthol and more menthol. (Peppermint, Spearmint, etc. fall into play here as well)

I go for a lot of variety, but I do like to have some link between soap fragrance and aftershave. For example:
QED's Mocha-Java or Honeybee Sue's Coffee-Mocha or Mama Bear's Turkish Mocha will normally call for Pinaud's Vanilla aftershave (though it's not terribly vanilla).
A Lime soap will get a Bay Rum aftershave.
A Rose soap will get Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel.
Otherwise, I go as the mood strikes.

I like your thinking. Exactly what I did today in bold.

I do try to link together the items I have basically into these categories -
Menthol
Lime
Lavender
Spice

I also love the variety of things, but as far as themes are concerned, there are two of 'em:
a) menthol - I just love the icy feeling on the face
b) Lavender - REAL Lavender EO, mind you, I don't care about the sweet, chemical Lavender FOs out there.
